Currently getting rave reviews from audiences in New York City, Divine Performing Arts is headed to Atlanta for the Chinese New Year Spectacular at the new Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. If audiences reactions are any indicator, especially on the theatre-saturated streets of New York City, the upcoming show in Atlanta is a "can't miss."
The whole thing was absolutely magical -- those gorgeous costumes, the exquisiteness of the dancing. "It was awesome," said Brian Shaheen, a violinist from Manhattan, who also saw the show. "I loved the costumes, the diversity of the music."
Critics also agree.
"Wow! A visit to a magical Shangri-La," said Richmond Shepard of Performing Arts INSIDER.
"Superb! Every performance was stunning...Amazing, amazing, amazing," said Aaron Cohen of WNYC TV.
The Chinese New Year Spectacular involves a variety of acts in which audiences travel back in time to the ancient dynasties of China, hearing the drums roar from the great Tang Dynasty and visiting the elegant dancers of the Qing Dynasty. Audiences also get a cultural tour of China's many ethnicities, with Chinese classical dances representing the rich cultures of Mongolians, Manchurians, and Tibetans. It's a cultural experience that you won't see anywhere else, even in mainland China -- where much of China's ancient culture was decimated during the Cultural Revolution during the 1960s and 1970s.
The performances are accompanied by the groundbreaking Divine Performing Arts Troupe. With two entertaining hosts that speak both Chinese and English, the show creates a universally enjoyable experience.
From Atlanta, the Chinese New Year Spectacular will visit more than 65 cities across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
