Tune in to Fat Tuesday

Mardi Gras ends with great noise and goodwill today in New Orleans, and our Rick Jervis writes the celebrations "have been harbingers of the city's return to normalcy."

NOLA.com is streaming a pair of parades live online this morning, and there's a "ParadeCam" updating every 20 seconds. The site, which runs in conjunction with the Times-Picayune, also features reader stories from Mardi Gras past and reader photos from this year's events.

There have been five Mardi Gras-associated shootings this year, but none since the late hours of the weekend, the Times-Picayune reports. And, yes, today is the end of Mardi Gras. "It's a common misperception that Mardi Gras is the start of a heavy couple of weeks of parading and partying," NOLA.com explains in a FAQ. That's backward. Mardi Gras is the END of the partying. The last day. End of the line. (At least until the bars open the next night)."
